UN Youth Association of Romania

UN Youth Association of Romania is a youth NGO founded in 2009, whose main goals are to promote and encourage UN values and activities among the Romanian youth, the Romanian society, the regional and international community. To achieve these goals, UNYAR organizes conferences, seminars, workshops, debates and simulations of decision-making committees of the UN or international courts of justice. The Association is also responsible for organizing the largest annual Model United Nations simulation in Romania – Bucharest International Student Model United Nations (BISMUN).

Originally founded as BISMUN Association in 2009 by students of the Faculty of Law, University of Bucharest, the members of the Association decided to change its name in May 2012 in order to better correlate its public identity to the extent of its objectives and activities. Currently, the Association has approximately 60 members in Bucharest and about 150 members at the national level, through its regional branches:

Cluj-Napoca Branch;

Roman Club.

Despite its relatively short history, the UN Youth Association of Romania has an impressive number of projects developed or on-going, such as:

the BISMUN Conference (10th edition in 2018);

the Summer School on Diplomacy (7th edition in 2017);

the Academic Conference (5th edition in 2015)

Moot Courts – International Courts of Justice (6th edition in 2017);


MiniMUNs: „Think Globally, Act Locally” (15 MUNs in Bucharest, Timisoara, Resita, Arad, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Brasov, Targoviste, Bacau);

UN Day (9th edition in 2017);

Current Orientations in International Law and International Relations (3rd edition in 2013);

Millenium Development Goals Awareness Campaign (2011-2012);



UN Youth Association of Romania has longstanding institutional partnerships with the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the University of Bucharest, the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest and the UN System in Romania and in the past has developed project-based partnerships with the Romanian Senate, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Central University Library „Carol I”, Academy of Economic Studies, Ronald S. Lauder Foundation, the Romanian Diplomatic Institute, Ecological University, University of the West, Transilvania University.
